LIV Golf star Bryson DeChambeau has called for a Scottish golf course to be saved. The venue’s future is set to be decided by the local authorities.

Since the American signed for the PIF-backed venture, he has been an advocate for growing the game; primarily through his booming YouTube channel.

What’s more, DeChambeau is launching a new golfing project to encourage younger generations into the sport. While many LIV players’ reputations have been damaged, the same cannot be said about the two-time US Open champ. What he’s accomplished over the past three years has been remarkable.

Now, in his latest social media post, DeChambeau has offered support to Dalmuir Golf Course, which is on the outskirts of Glasgow.

The future of Dalmuir is set to be decided on Wednesday at West Dunbartonshire Council’s latest meeting. Two options which could keep the facility open include reducing the course to 12 holes or increasing membership and green fee rates.

There is also the possibility of the course closing altogether.

However, in a last-gasp social media plea, DeChambeau offered his support to the golf course ahead of the all-important council meeting.

“I’m here to tell you about Dalmuir golf course and how important public golf course is to the ecosystem, not just golf in general but the community that you have there,” DeChambeau said.

“Sometimes people don’t realise the impact of what golf can be and what it is for a community, whether it’s character development, personal growth, learning more about yourself, or family development in general.

“I think it’s important for people to understand that if you don’t have golf courses like Dalmuir and a community like Dalmuir, it’s difficult to continue to grow not only just a sport but just a community.”

He added: “I think this golf course is super important, I know it’s super important, and I hope that people can understand how important it is to go out and sign that petition, keep this golf course alive, keep it in existence, for everybody’s sake and to make a different future for your generations to come.”

The latest on Dalmuir Golf Course

The latest council meeting isn’t the first time Dalmuir’s future has come under threat. A year ago, similar proposals emerged only for the course to survive.

12 months ago, DeChambeau’s fellow LIV Golf star Sergio Garcia joined the petition to save the course. More than 7500 people signed. Luke Donald and Justin Rose have also offered support to the Municipal venue.

Unfortunately, the signs suggest a negative outcome is a very real possibility. According to the Glasgow Evening Times, one member claimed a council source told him that they are “99.9% sure” the course will close.

After Wednesday’s meeting, more news will almost certainly emerge on the future of the Glasgow golfing facility.
