Outside of his two US Open victories, the biggest win of Bryson DeChambeau’s career arguably came in 2021 when he won the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Bryson DeChambeau was going through an interesting phase in his career in 2021. He had started the dramatic body transformation which changed his game in late 2019, and he was seemingly searching for the balance which would make the changes sustainable.

There was a moment at the 2021 Arnold Palmer Invitational which hinted at the force in the game DeChambeau was set to become in the next few years, as he attempted to drive the par five sixth hole at Bay Hill.

But the highlight of the week would come on Sunday as the American clinched victory by one shot.

DeChambeau started the final day one shot back of Lee Westwood. But it seems that he had some big names in his corner heading into Sunday.

Speaking after his victory four years ago, DeChambeau explained how Tiger Woods had reached out to him as the 15-time major champion continued his recovery from a serious car accident earlier in the year.

“I got a text from Tiger this morning. We just talked about ‘Just keep fighting, no matter what happens’ and play boldly like Mr. Palmer,” he said, as reported by CNN.

“It’s beyond my wildest dreams to win Mr. Palmer’s event.”

“I came here as an amateur, he gave me an invitation and I loved this golf course the minute I arrived. I loved the atmosphere and I love the fans. I loved what Mr. Palmer did with this place and what he’s done and his legacy he’s left here.”

Bay Hill was definitely a happy hunting ground for DeChambeau before his move to LIV Golf. He played the event on five occasions and finished in the top five three times.

He came second to Rory McIlroy in 2018, while he was fourth two years later as Tyrrell Hatton won at just four under par.

Of course, no player has been as impressive around Bay Hill over the years as Woods. He won eight times between 2000 and 2013. Meanwhile, he boasts the largest margin of victory at the event, having won by 11 back in 2003.

So it was a touch of class from Woods to reach out to DeChambeau ahead of that final round – and obviously, the words of wisdom had a positive impact.
