Brian Harman was part of the USA team that fell to a crushing defeat at the 2023 Ryder Cup. The American, however, still has fond memories of his time in Rome.
Harman and Max Homa were the only Americans to win a foursomes match at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club, beating Sepp Straka and Shane Lowry.
Harman, who is part of the 2024 United States Presidents Cup team, has opened up on his experience in the Italian capital and admitted he loved silencing the home crowd.

Speaking during the latest episode of the Fore Play Podcast, Harman shared what it was like playing amongst the ‘hostile’ European fans.
“Until you’ve done it, it’s impossible to explain,” Harman said. “It feels like you’re going to war. We, as golfers, don’t get to play in hostile environments very often.”
The 2023 Open winner even suggested he prefers playing away from home.
“I thought it was awesome,” Harman added. “I would almost prefer to play away than at home because it’s way harder. There’s nothing like making a putt and having them go quiet. For me, that’s the ultimate existence in golf.”
2025 Ryder Cup atmosphere could be intimidating for Luke Donald’s Europe
Considering all that happened at the 2023 edition in Rome, Luke Donald’s Europeans will have to brace themselves for an unfriendly welcome from the New York crowds at Bethpage Black in 12 months.
The ridicule of Patrick Cantlay will fuel the US crowds, who will no doubt look to impact those on the European side.
Captain Keegan Bradley anticipates a crazy atmosphere, and it’s something the 38-year-old will be looking to harness as he seeks to regain the Ryder Cup.
From a European perspective, Donald will be under no illusions regarding the task at hand. 2012 was the last time Europe were victorious on US soil. Given the hostile reception and calibre of the opponent, it will take something special for Donald to make it consecutive Ryder Cup victories.
