Billy Horschel missed the cut at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. The American, however, got to witness a simply stunning round of golf up close.
Horschel’s first-round 79 (seven over) was where the damage was done. Facing an uphill battle, the 2024 BMW PGA Championship winner shot 74 on Friday to finish well outside the cut line.
Bay Hill has shown its teeth over the past two days. Scottie Scheffler highlighted the challenging greens, whilst Rory McIlroy struggled in the crosswinds. Arnie’s track is living up to its fierce reputation.
USA Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley even claimed Bay Hill is the hardest course on the PGA Tour. However, the difficulty level didn’t stop Aussie star Jason Day.
Arnold Palmer Invitational: Jason Day produces stunning second round at Bay Hill

Whilst most of the field struggled, the 13-time PGA Tour winner shot 64 (eight under) to climb the leaderboard.
Starting the day four over, Day made seven birdies and an eagle to pull himself into contention. The Aussie is now four under for the tournament and in a tie for fifth alongside McIlroy and Russell Henley.
Horschel, who was playing alongside Day, was particularly impressed.
“One of the best rounds I’ve seen in a long time! Played beautifully @JDayGolf,” Horschel wrote on X.
Shane Lowry sets the pace at the Arnold Palmer Invitational
Day is four shots back of Shane Lowry heading into the weekend. The Irishman shot 67 on Friday and continued his impressive form around Bay Hill.
Lowry appears well-suited to the set-up, which rewards players who can find fairways and lower their ball flight, two things the 2019 Open Championship winner excels at.
2023 US Open champ Wyndham Clark is solo second after shooting 71 on Friday. The American’s round wasn’t without controversy, though.
Clark was accused of cheating after he removed his ball from a plugged lie. His ball appeared to roll into a divot rather than stopping dead. The American insists his tee shot plugged immediately upon landing.
