If you want to listen to a current PGA Tour player about how to do something on the golf course, then current runaway BMW Championship leader Robert MacIntyre might be the ideal candidate.
MacIntyre went into round three of the event at Caves Valley some five shots clear of Scottie Scheffler and firmly on course to win what would be his third PGA Tour event.
Whether or not MacIntyre can go on to win remains to be seen, with the world number one chasing him and another tough round on Sunday to come.
Still, one thing that is for sure is that the Scot knows what he’s talking about when it comes to hitting golf shots.
However, when it comes to nailing the driver, MacIntyre has offered up some advice but at the same time, suggesting the average amateur doesn’t try it.

Robert MacIntyre’s driving advice that amateurs shouldn’t try
Given where MacIntyre grew up, getting creative with your golf shots and knowing how to play in the wind is a key factor.
The Scottish star is a bit like Shane Lowry in that respect, knowing full well he needs to adjust for certain conditions.
However, according to MacIntyre himself, there’s one thing he does that the lesser skilled golfer needs to avoid.
“A little thing that I do, and I would not advise it at home, but I change strike location on the driver face for wind direction, shot shape, whatever is needed. I will change. Whether it’s out the toe or out the heel for the miss I vary,” MacIntyre revealed.
“Yes [I will purposely miss the middle of the face]. So it all started when the wind was off the right, for the right hander wind off the left and I felt I could not draw it enough into the wind because the spin would come off it. If I was trying to shut it down, I would launch it low and the spin would be off it and it would dive out the sky.
“We came to the thing. Have you ever tried to hit it out of the toe? Because the gear effect on the driver will create the curvature without the added draw. I said no. I was a little bit scared at the start and I teed it up. It looked wild! But now it’s a constant.
“I detest hitting it out of the heel, so now when I am hitting a driver you will see my lining it up out of the toe all the time because my fear is hitting that left ball.”
Robert MacIntyre backs up his tip with BMW Championship performance
It’s interesting to look back on a quote like this from MacIntyre and then see him actually backing things up in real life.
At the BMW Championship, the Scot didn’t come into the event in the best shape but he’s produced the goods and looks a safe bet to win out.
Indeed, speaking after round two, he touched on how he adapts his game thanks to links golf experience.
“When I play links golf I change my technique, I change quite a lot of things. I change ball position, set up, it’s a completely different game when you go to links golf. So I kind of neglected the technique and when I came back out it was a little bit off,” MacIntyre revealed after round two.
“I could not work it out so it was a may day call for Simon [his swing coach] to come over and it’s been worth it. We get on great and he just simplifies things for me.“
Being so adaptive is obviously a key trait of a top golfer and for now, it looks like MacIntyre has got it down to a tee.
