Robert MacIntyre has been in scintillating form during the first two rounds of the BMW Championship, and Phil Mickelson made a point about LIV Golf in reaction to the Scot’s opening round.

It shows how good MacIntyre was in his first round that his bogey-free 64 on day two was his worst score of the week at the BMW Championship.

After the rain delay on day one, MacIntyre came out firing on all cylinders at the BMW Championship and birdied his final six holes of his round.

While the PGA Tour event is in Baltimore this week, Mickelson and his fellow LIV golfers are in Indianapolis.

Sebastian Munoz lit up The Club at Chatham Hills on day one on Friday, with a sparkling round of 12-under par 59.

The Colombian’s round featured a double bogey and a remarkable 14 birdies. Incredibly, he was one-over par after four holes of his round at LIV Indianapolis, before he birdied 13 of his final 14 holes.

It was a sensational display of golf from Munoz – one that overshadowed MacIntyre’s brilliant golf over in Baltimore.

Mickelson is well known for his social media activity now.

The six-time major champion often takes to his X account to share his opinions on the game of golf, particularly focusing on the rivalry between LIV and the PGA Tour.

After MacIntyre’s round of 62 on day one of the BMW, a golf account on X – Fore Play – shared the Scot’s scorecard, with the title, That is a LOT of circles.

Mickelson responded to the post from Fore Play, and took a cheeky swipe at MacIntyre and the PGA Tour.

He said: Sebastian Munoz says ‘hold my beer’.

The message from the 55-year-old was obviously slightly tongue in cheek, but at the same time, he is definitely someone who doesn’t hold back when airing his opinions.

Why Phil Mickelson thinks LIV has a better product than the PGA Tour

Mickelson has been extremely outspoken regarding his views on LIV Golf, and how it is a better model than the PGA Tour.

A few months ago, Mickelson explained why he thinks LIV is on such a good path right now.

“I wouldn’t say it’s gone (the tension between tours), Mickelson said. We are about growing the game globally, whilst the PGA Tour has always been about growing the game nationally. There is a lot of criticism we take in the United States, but if you look globally, the way LIV Golf is received is incredible.

“The model that professional golf has had is very individualistic, not controlling players’ schedules, sponsors don’t know what they’re buying, TV doesn’t know who’s going to be playing and fans don’t know who they’re going to be watching. We’re changing that model entirely. You know who’s going to be playing, TV knows what they’re buying, who’s competing. So when we move that professionally golf globally throughout the world to other countries that have not had golf at the highest level before, you start to see the interest. And that’s what we’re seeing on a global scale.”

Mickelson actually makes a great point here. Rory McIlroy’s recent absence from the first FedEx Cup playoff event highlighted the big issue the PGA Tour have.

The bottom line is that LIV clearly aren’t going anywhere, and in a way, that should force the PGA Tour into continually trying to improve and evolve.
