After an intriguing day one at the 2024 US Open, The Golfing Gazette brings you the complete schedule, how to watch and all the key info ahead of the second round at Pinehurst No.2.
Thursday’s first round saw Pinehurst’s slopes entice the world’s best into several mistakes, but there were opportunities to score – and Rory McIlroy shares the lead with Patrick Cantlay.
The USGA will be delighted with how the course played on Thursday as the prestigious venue provided a stern test of the world’s best, and more is to come in Friday’s second 18 holes.

Key storylines to follow on day two of the US Open
Rory McIlroy has a chance to take control at Pinehurst
McIlroy is in search of his first major title in ten years – and will be thrilled with his first round in North Carolina.
The Northern Irishman stroked home a birdie on the 18th to card a five-under 65 on Thursday.
With the 35-year-old out early on Friday, he will be looking to take advantage of the easier morning conditions and gain the outright lead heading into the weekend.
Scottie Scheffler faces a battle to stay in contention
Playing alongside McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler carded an uncharacteristic one-over-par round at Pinehurst.
The American avoided any real danger but struggled to get his normally metronomic tee-to-green play going.
With McIlroy and Cantlay six shots ahead, Scheffler will have to card an under-par round on Friday to stand any hope of landing his third major title and first US Open win.
Tiger Woods’ battle to make the cut at Pinehurst
Once again, Tiger Woods will face a battle to make the cut at Pinehurst No.2; however, there were some really positive signs.
The 15-time major winner drove the ball brilliantly, often out-hitting his playing partners and carving Pinehurst’s fairways in half.
However, some wayward iron shots and uncharacteristic missed putts cost him on his way to a four-over 74. After being spotted on the range late on Thursday, Woods will be desperate to make the cut and place himself near level par heading into the weekend.
