The Arnold Palmer Invitational served up some world-class entertainment last week with Russell Henley beating Collin Morikawa to the title.

Everything you need to know about the Players Championship 2025

The Players Championship 2025 dates

The Players Championship starts on Thursday, March 12, 2025 and the final round is on Sunday, March 9, 2025. It’s one of the best weeks of the year for golf fans.

Where is the Players Championship?

The first edition of The Players in 1974 was actually at the Atlanta Country Club. It was then hosted by three different venues before moving to TPC Sawgrass in 1982.

Sawgrass is now one of the most famous golf courses in the world, with the par-3 17th hole arguably the most well-known in the sport.

Which players are in the Players Championship field?

The Players Championship is often called the ‘fifth major’ and the field backs that up. The best players on the PGA Tour all want to compete at TPC Sawgrass.

Back-to-back defending champion Scottie Scheffler will play alongside Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele in the featured group on the first two days.

Top 10 in the Official World Golf Ranking, including Arnold Palmer Invitational winner Russell Henley and runner-up Collin Morikawa, are all set to tee it up this week

What is the Players Championship prize money?

This week’s prize money at the Players Championship is an incredible $25 million. That’s $5m more than the other seven Signature Events on the PGA Tour.

The winner will receive 18% of the total purse ($4.5m) and the runner-up will pocket $2.73m. The next three will earn $1.73m, $1.23m and $1.03m, respectively, so a top five finish will feel like a win in that regard.

The Players Championship picks

The Golfing Gazette writers have made their picks ahead of the Players Championship:

Peter Lynch: I think Ludvig Aberg is closing in on another big win, having made a strong start to his 2025 PGA Tour season. TPC Sawgrass won’t be easy for even the world’s best players, but I think the Swede has what it takes to knock Scottie Scheffler off his perch here.

Jordan Harris: Collin Morikawa is doing everything right without winning once again this season, but that run may end at TPC Sawgrass. He’s been the best strokes gained player on the PGA Tour this year, and his stunning iron play could make the difference this week.

James Shearman: Hideki Matsuyama has been consistently good this season after winning well at The Sentry. He’s world number six for a reason and I think he has an excellent chance this week.
