Scottie Scheffler has yet to win an event in 2025 but with The Players next up, there is expectation and hope that he can write his name into the record books again.

Scheffler hasn’t quite found his full rhythm this season as yet but still, he’s not far off being in contention despite being nowhere near his best.

Going into TPC Sawgrass and The Players, Scheffler can become the first player in history to win three in a row.

Still, while that achievement is monumental, the triple crown would also mean he’s the only player alongside Jack Nicklaus to win a trifecta of Players titles.

But as expected from the world number one, pre-empting success is not something Scheffler is prepared to do right now.

Scottie Scheffler responds to suggestions he could tie Jack Nicklaus at The Players

Scheffler was speaking to the media after finishing in a disappointing tie for 11th by his standards and he was asked about the upcoming Players Championship, where he can become only the second player ever after Jack Nicklaus to win three times at TPC Sawgrass.

However, for Scheffler, it’s all about staying present and he refused to be drawn on getting carried away.

“Yeah, well, I’m not going to be thinking about that too much next week, just go in there with the right mindset,” Scheffler replied.

“We’ll head up there tonight and hopefully get some practice in tomorrow when the rain stops, and then get ready for the week.”

The golfers who have won the same event three years in a row

Winning the same championship three times is hard enough, but winning it three times in a row is something extra special.

Scottie Scheffler can put his name on a pretty elusive list if he manages to win The Players again.

Naturally, Tiger Woods features on such a list, with the 15-time major winner having achieved three in a row on more than one occasion.

Scheffler, then, can put himself on quite the rare list here and cement himself as one of the true greats.
