Scottie Scheffler enjoyed one of the most successful PGA Tour seasons in the history of the game in 2024.
Scheffler won seven PGA Tour events last year, including The Masters and he also won an Olympic gold medal as well as the Hero World Challenge.
So it shouldn’t have been a surprise to anyone when he made a slow start out of the blocks in 2025, by his standards at least.
It was always going to be incredibly difficult for him to replicate what he produced in 2024.
However, since the start of May, he has been the best golfer on the planet by quite some distance.

Scheffler has three wins in his last six starts to his name, and hasn’t finished outside of the top-seven during that stretch of golf.
It cannot be argued that Scheffler is the most consistent golfer on the planet right now, and he has been for quite some time.
However, it hasn’t gone unnoticed that he has improved one part of his game beyond all recognition.
The American might not win as many tournaments this year as he did in 2024, but he looks primed to dominate for years to come.
Scottie Scheffler made one change that has transformed his game
Scheffler is well known for his relentless pursuit of perfection.
Whilst it may never be possible to actually master the game of golf, Scheffler leaves no stone unturned in his quest to be the dominant force in the professional game.
It’s common knowledge that Scheffler wins pretty much every time he has a successful week on the greens.
So it should be a big concern for his rivals that he has improved greatly in the putting department this season.
It’s probably no coincidence that the 29-year-old switched to using the claw grip at the Hero Challenge in December 2024.
He put it in to play on the PGA Tour from the very first event he played this season at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in February.

Scheffler admitted last month that he will continue to use the claw grip for putts inside of 15 feet, whilst he takes on more of a feel approach to his longer putts.
And judging by how his stats look this season, the rest of the PGA Tour should be seriously concerned about Scheffler over the course of the next couple of decades.
Scottie Scheffler’s putting stats: 2023, 2024 and 2025
Scheffler made a big change from a blade putter to a mallet version at the beginning of 2024.
And he made huge strides on the greens after that change.
However, his putting has improved even further still this season, since he added the claw grip to his repertoire.
Here is how his putting numbers from the last three seasons compare:
| Putting categories | 2025 rank | 2024 rank | 2023 rank |
| Strokes gained putting | 15th | 77th | 162nd |
| Putts per round | 11th | 21st | 110th |
| One-putt percentage | 16th | 22nd | 136th |
The gradual improvements from Scheffler on the greens over the past few seasons are clear and obvious to see.
It might seem like he struggles a lot, but that’s only because he is hitting so many greens in every single round that he plays.
He is statistically one of the best putters on the PGA Tour this season – a quite remarkable turnaround from his performances with the flat-stick in 2023.
