There is no golfer on the planet right now who can hold a candle to Scottie Scheffler.

Scheffler won the Memorial Tournament on Sunday – his ninth consecutive victory when holding the lead after 54 holes.

The 28-year-old American now has 16 PGA Tour wins to his name as well as three major championships.

Scheffler is so dominant at the moment that he may well be inadvertently putting more pressure on the PGA Tour to secure a merger with LIV Golf.

When Rory McIlroy isn’t playing, and with Xander Schauffele not at his best, the world number one just doesn’t have that much competition right now.

Jordan Spieth suggested last week that Scheffler is the best of all-time when it comes to control of his clubface.

And the three-time major champion is proving Spieth right every single week it seems.

Scottie Scheffler makes comment about putting grip after winning the Memorial

Scheffler has actually made huge strides with his putting this season.

Sure, he still misses his fair share of birdie putts inside 10 feet, but he always seems to make the ones he needs to hole.

So is the claw grip that he brought into play in December 2024 responsible for his recent improvement on the greens?

Dan Rapaport interviewed Scheffler immediately after his win at Muirfield Village, for his Dan on Golf YouTube channel.

Rapapport asked the world number one if he plans to start using his claw grip for longer putts anytime soon.

He asked, “The claw, you seem to be really comfortable with it. When you first started, it was just for the really short putts. Are you kind of extending how you’re using it?”

Scheffler then responded by explaining his thinking behind using the claw.

He said, “No, inside of 15 feet, I’m very likely to use it, but it’s mostly just a feel thing. Since the Bahamas I have stuck with it for mostly similar length putts. It’s kind of whatever I’m comfortable with at the time. I really don’t put too much thought into it, if I look at a putt that looks like the claw, which is mostly inside 15 feet, then I’ll hit it with the claw and if it looks like conventional then I’m going to go with the conventional.”

To which Rapaport responded, “You don’t talk to Ted about that, you just feel it?”

And Scheffler replied, “No, most of the putts inside 15 feet I have used the claw since the Bahamas. Maybe an odd putt here or there, where there’s a tonne of break, or it’s mostly about speed. But overall, I’m very comfortable with it, and I’m definitely not going to extend the range per se of stretching it out any further, I feel like I’m in a pretty good spot right now.”

Scheffler has clearly found a method that suits him.

However, what is most impressive is the simplicity with which he approaches his putting. If it feels like a putt where the claw is needed, he will go with the claw.

And that is so refreshing to hear in this day and age, when so many players take a robotic approach to the game.

Scottie Scheffler’s 2024 vs 2025 PGA Tour stats

There is quite simply no stopping Scheffler right now.

The man is an absolute machine and believe it or not, he has actually improved statistically since last season.

PGA Tour statistical categoryScheffler’s 2024 rankScheffler’s 2025 rank

Strokes gained approach1st1st

As you can see from those numbers, Scheffler has improved from last season.

Remember in 2024, he won seven PGA Tour events as well as the Hero World Challenge and an Olympic gold medal as well!

The fact that he has seemingly got even better in 2025 should be a seriously scary prospect for his rivals.
