If Tiger Woods is offering you praise, you know you must be doing something right.

Scottie Scheffler has displayed a certain kind of dominance over the past two years or so that hasn’t been seen since Woods in his heyday.

Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas and Bryson DeChambeau are all in fine form, but the 28-year-old Texan will still be the favourite to win The PGA Championship next week.

Scheffler made Si Woo Kim feel ‘terrible’ at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson last week, due to his incredible performance at TPC Craig Ranch.

He really does have everything doesn’t he, and what makes him an even better golfer is that he is so level-headed, rarely losing his temper on the golf course.

Scheffler’s attention to detail has been praised in the past, and he just does the basics so well every single time.

However, if there is one part of his game that is not elite, it is his putting.

That said, he’s now making serious inroads into becoming world-class with his putter.

What Tiger Woods said about Scottie Scheffler should scare his rivals

It’s common knowledge that Scheffler is the best iron player on the PGA Tour.

He is first in both strokes gained total and strokes gained approach to the green in 2025.

However, he has been remarkably consistent on the greens this season as well.

Back in 2024, Woods explained how Scheffler was capable of reaching another level if he manages to find a way to putt well on a more consistent basis.

The 15-time major champion said, If you stand behind him and watch the ball flight it is very tight either way. Yes, he’s making a significant number of birdies, but he’s not making any mistakes. No doubles, no loose bogeys here and there.

He’s got amazing feel. You can see it around his short game and trajectory control into greens. If he has consistency on the greens he’s going to finish top 10 every week and pick off a lot (of wins).

What Woods said back then means that we could be looking at an entire new era of dominance from Scheffler over the next few years.

Scheffler’s putting stats make for scary reading for his rivals

If Scheffler putts to even a decent standard during a tournament, he more often than not wins.

His putting stats this season prove that the 28-year-old Texan has found a way to become far more consistent with his putter.

Strokes gained putting25th
Average putts per hole18th
Putts per round22nd
One putt %21st
Putting inside 10 feet9th

The fact that he is inside the top 25 in all of those categories is ominous for his rivals.

Scheffler has finished inside the top-25 in all nine of the events he has played this season, including six top-10s.

With major season well and truly underway, the 14-time PGA Tour winner seems to be peaking at just the right time.

And what Woods said about Scheffler’s putting back in 2024 means that he could well go on a tear now, if he continues to perform solidly with the flat-stick.
