How Michael Jordan got on when he played the famous 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass

Michael Jordan is no stranger to golf, with TPC Sawgrass among the courses the sports legend has taken on over the years.

Jordan is good friends with Tiger Woods, who is absent from this year’s Players Championship field at TPC Sawgrass.

The 82-time PGA Tour champion has just undergone achilles surgery, but Woods can take comfort from Bernhard Langer, who recovered quickly from the same injury.

Woods therefore misses out on the iconic TPC Sawgrass, a venue at which he has twice won the Players Championship.

Replicating that feat in more recent times was world number one Scottie Scheffler, who is now seeking a third successive title.

Designed by Pete Dye, Ponte Vedra Beach’s TPC Sawgrass has welcomed back its famed oak tree on the sixth hole after it was lost to disease in 2014.

But undoubtedly a more iconic hole awaits the players once more this time around; the par-three 17th with the island green.

The hole has played host to many iconic moments throughout Players Championship history, both good and bad.

And as relayed by The Golfballing Podcast, basketball legend Jordan mastered the 17th at TPC Sawgrass once upon a time, expertly navigating the water and landing his ball not far at all from the flag.

All of the field at the 2025 Players Championship will be hoping for similar outcomes to Jordan, although they then must work their magic with the putter too.

It is a hole that has broken many hearts throughout the history of the tournament, as well as raising many spirits.
