Despite her dominance and record-breaking form in 2024, Nelly Korda’s woes at one particular event continued.

Korda banked over $14m last year and became the standout player on the LPGA Tour, winning seven times. The 26-year-old’s most recent victory came during The Annika at Pelican Golf Club near Tampa.

Korda also shot in the 60s in 63.2% of her rounds, which is the highest single-season average of all time by a player who has played 50 or more rounds.

The US Open, however, once again proved a stretch too far for the American.

The US Open – typically the most demanding major – has not been kind to Korda over the years.

During her debut at Sebonack Golf Club in 2023, Korda made the cut but finished 22 over after posting a finishing score of 310. Three years later, at CordeValle, she ended the week 10 over.

Trump National was the venue for the 2017 edition, and Korda’s performance improved after she carded six over through her four rounds. The 26-year-old improved once more at Shoal Creek in 2018, finishing at level par.

However, in 2019, Korda shot over par (five over) at the Country Club of Charleston. She then missed the cut in 2020 and 2021 before finally finishing under par in 2022 at Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club.

Korda finished 13 over at Pebble Beach in 2023 and also missed the cut in the most recent edition at Lancaster Country Club in Pennsylvania.

Why did Nelly Korda make the headlines at the 2024 US Open

During the 2024 US Open, the American’s chances of victory were over before the tournament had properly begun.

Starting the week as the red-hot favourite, Korda made a ten on the par-three 12th hole after finding the water hazard on multiple occasions.

From that moment, Korda was playing catch up and narrowly missed the cut after improving during the second round. After missing out on the weekend, the world number one said: “Making a 10 on a par 3 will definitely not do you any good at a U.S. Open,” she said. “I started off really poorly, but played pretty well on the back nine. But overall, yeah, just a bad day in the office.”
