The world’s number one female player in the world, Nelly Korda, has had a disastrous start to the US Open today.

At the time of writing, Korda is a massive ten over par and sitting down in second to last place.

Korda was the heavy favourite heading into the tournament after a superb 2024 so far but she is now facing a huge task to even make the cut.

Of course, Korda’s round got off to the worst possible start as on her third hole (the 12th on the course) she had an absolute nightmare on a par three.

After initially finding the bunker at the back of the green with her tee shot, Korda chipped back over the green into the water. However, things went from bad to worse for her after that first drop, as it took another two drops to even get it onto the green.

From there, Korda then two-putted to register a 10.

It was one of the most shocking sights seen in the whole golfing world this year and was reminiscent of Tiger Woods making a 10 on the par three 12th at Augusta back in 2020.

And over on social media, golf fans have been having their say after seeing Korda’s meltdown.

Golf fans can’t believe what’s happened to Nelly Korda at the US Open today

As we all know, social media is no hiding place at the elite level in sport and X was full of comments from golf fans having their say on the matter.

In the main, the comments were centred around Korda basically showing she is ‘normal’ and endearing herself to the average golfer.

Some fans have suggested that her tournament is already over after the ten.

However, some fans didn’t quite write Korda off just yet, with some suggesting the biggest of bounce backs might be on the cards.

Korda, it seems, has a mile to go in terms of getting back into this.

At the time of writing, she was still ten over par after nine and had clawed no shots back.

It just goes to show that golf is HARD and that on any given day, it can crush even the best in the world.
