Bryson DeChambeau made some extremely interesting comments about Scottie Scheffler back in 2021.

And Keegan Bradley clearly didn’t do any proper research regarding the idea of pairing LIV Golf star DeChambeau and Scheffler together at the Ryder Cup last month.

Scheffler actually praised DeChambeau to the hilt before the Ryder Cup began, but the duo were kept apart at Bethpage Black until he Saturday four-ball matches.

The American duo lost their clash with Tommy Fleetwood and Justin Rose as the Europeans continued their domination of the event.

DeChambeau is a huge fan of Scheffler’s golf game and recently suggested the world number one has the best spin and distance control he has ever seen.

In fairness, neither the LIV golfer nor the PGA Tour star enjoyed successful Ryder Cups.

Could things have been different though, had Bradley been brave enough to play them together in two or three sessions throughout the week?

While Steve Stricker leaned on Scheffler and DeChambeau as a partnership at the Ryder Cup in 2021, Bradley chose to go down a different route during the first three sessions of the competition this year.

Quite why the 39-year-old from Vermont chose to do that is anyone’s guess.

When speaking on the Full Send Podcast, DeChambeau shared what he thought of Scheffler as a partner.

He said: “Greatest team ever. We had the best team ever. Simple. We demolished them.

“We all came together as a team. You saw Brooks and I come together as a team and that was fun. I’d also say that I had a great partner in Scottie Scheffler, he was insane.

“He’s such a good player. He’s never won on tour, he will win on tour. He was a rookie at the Ryder Cup but he felt like a veteran, it was super sick.

“We all just came together. The most important thing about the event is that as a country we came together. We have been struggling for a long time in this country, we needed a little gusto and a little jump and the Ryder Cup provided a little bit of that.“

There is a genuine case to be made that Bradley should have paired Scheffler up with DeChambeau throughout the week at Bethpage.

Bradley should have realised that just because Scheffler and Russell Henley forged a solid partnership at the Presidents Cup, it didn’t automatically mean they would thrive together at the Ryder Cup.

And so that proved to be the case.

Henley’s lack of distance off the tee was a major problem, while the fact that the world number one took the even tee shots on day one was beyond farcical.

There is another notion regarding Scheffler, with many golf journalists and indeed fans suggesting that he requires a more high-energy partner in team competition, especially at the Ryder Cup.

Let’s not forget as well, Scheffler and DeChambeau went 1-0-1 as a pairing at the 2021 Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits.

So why on earth did Bradley keep Scheffler and DeChambeau apart until the Saturday afternoon four-ball matches at the Ryder Cup?

Things could have been very different for the United States had the PGA Tour and LIV Golf stars been used as a partnership from the very first match of the Ryder Cup.
