If anyone was in any doubt at all about just how good Scottie Scheffler truly is, they only need to look at what so many of the world number one’s peers say about his ability on the golf course.
Scottie Scheffler is on a path to putting himself alongside some of the greatest players to have ever played the game. The 29-year-old has won four majors, and goes into 2026 needing just a US Open victory to complete the Career Grand Slam.
He has been the player who has set the standard on the PGA Tour for the best part of four years now. He has won The Masters, The Players Championship, the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Memorial Tournament on two occasions each.
What is remarkable about Scheffler, to the untrained eye, is just how unremarkable he seems to be. You would not find his golf swing in any textbook. Meanwhile, he does not hit the kind of shots which really get fans out of their seats.
Bryson DeChambeau says what Scottie Scheffler does better than anyone he has ever seen
Nevertheless, Scheffler is doing things which the game has not seen since the days of Tiger Woods.
And speaking on The Pat McAfee Show, Bryson DeChambeau outlined just what he thinks makes Scheffler so formidable on the course.

“He’s got the best spin and distance control I’ve ever seen. He controls the golf ball from a spin perspective so much better than everybody else. If you’re 175 yards out and it’s 10 miles into the wind, he knows how to control the flight and spin to get that ball to land right next to the hole every hole,” he said.
“His distance control is the best since Tiger. Probably since Tiger, he’s the best we’ve seen. I played with him in college a bunch and I said it before but he’s definitely improved since college for sure.”
What impressed Tiger Woods about Scottie Scheffler’s game
Scheffler obviously has some way to go before he gets close to rivalling the amount of success the likes of Woods and Jack Nicklaus had in their careers.
But he is definitely on the right path.
And it is significant that Woods is among his admirers. During last year’s Hero World Challenge, Woods lauded how reliable Scheffler is, particularly when he is hitting approach shots into the green.
“With his consistency each and every week he doesn’t really do anything really wrong. You see his footwork and all these different things, these contortions that he gets into. But if you stand behind him and watch the ball flight it is very tight either way, either left to right or right to left and he moves it up and down easily either way,” he said.
“He has driven it well all year. It’s very tight and consistent. His iron game is probably the best on tour. He hits it pin high whenever he chooses to be pin high.”
Golf has seen superstars emerge since Woods’ peak. Most have struggled to maintain early success over a longer period. Scheffler still needs to prove that he can define a generation with his longevity.
However, there is little doubt that he has all of the tools to do exactly that in the years to come.
