LIV Golf’s Louisiana event is set to be postponed, which presents Bryson DeChambeau with a massive opportunity.

With no event taking place on the LIV schedule between June 7 and July 23, there is now nearly a two-month break in competitive action for a large portion of LIV Golf players, right in the middle of the major season.

The US Open starts on June 18, and The Open Championship begins on July 19, so many of the LIV golfers will spend the break between those two majors looking for somewhere else to play.

That’s going to be a massive problem for them heading into Royal Birkdale, but it’s actually given DeChambeau a golden chance.

LIV Louisiana postponement gives Bryson DeChambeau a golden chance in contract talks

DeChambeau is currently in the middle of heated contract negotiations with LIV Golf and was seen speaking to PGA Tour officials about a possible return.

In both of those talks, the two-time US Open winner has said that he’s willing to step away from full-time professional golf and focus on content creation, while only playing the majors.

That’s physically possible. As the 2024 US Open winner, he’s exempt for all majors until 2029, but many have questioned DeChambeau’s ability to compete at majors without any competitive starts throughout the year.

Now is the chance to prove he can. DeChambeau has been a full-time content creator for nearly two months between LIV events. If he turns up to Royal Birkdale and performs well despite not having played competitively, then the PGA Tour and LIV will be forced to take his claim more seriously.

Right now, this is seen largely as a negotiation tactic. It seems completely unfeasible for DeChambeau to be a full-time content creator and win at the highest level. But until it’s done, everything seems impossible.

So this year’s Open Championship will be the biggest event of DeChambeau’s career so far if he can succeed under those circumstances.

Bryson DeChambeau’s poor Open Championship record

Unfortunately for the American, he likely could not have asked for a worse event in which to prove himself. DeChambeau’s record at The Open Championship shows it’s an event that isn’t particularly suited to him.

He’s played in eight Opens and missed the cut three times. DeChambeau has finished outside of the top 30 a further three times, and only finished in the top 10 twice.

DeChambeau’s hard-hitting style lacks the artistry needed to succeed at this event, which requires shot shaping and finesse to combat the British weather.

But content creation could actually better prepare him for The Open. On LIV, he isn’t given a proper links test to practice for The Open, but he could easily fly over to the UK and play some links courses in the build-up to Royal Birkdale this year.

So LIV Louisiana’s postponement could be a blessing in disguise for DeChambeau in more ways than one.
