Bryson DeChambeau will be hopeful of ending the 2025 major season on a positive note at The Open Championship this week.
DeChambeau has enjoyed a fine 2025 season on the whole, but he will be disappointed he hasn’t managed to win a major yet.
The 31-year-old American had great chances at The Masters and the PGA Championship, but he failed to produce the goods when it really mattered.
Now the LIV golfer has one more shot at a major win in 2025.
On Tuesday, DeChambeau said that he plans to learn from how Robert MacIntyre attacks links golf.
The two-time US Open champion definitely needs to make one big change in particular, if he is to succeed on links golf.
Bryson DeChambeau told The Open could vex him due to one issue
DeChambeau has a serious problem ahead of The Open, according to Dan Rapaport.

The American superstar has been in fine spirits at Royal Portrush so far this week.
However, that might count for nothing come Sunday evening.
Rapaport shared how he feels DeChambeau hits the ball far too high to contend in an Open Championship right now.
He said: “Bryson DeChambeau. He finished tied for 5th at The Masters, tied for 2nd at the PGA and missed the cut at The US Open. I’m giving him a B+. I was very disappointed with his performance at Oakmont, and I was very disappointed with his final round at The Masters. He just didn’t have it at all.
“I’m very curious to see how he does this week. He’s had one top-10 in an Open at 2022 at St Andrews when it was like, you could bomb it on every green, it was kind of a bombers situation.
“He hits the ball so high, there are so many variables in links golf and he is famously very much a paint by numbers type player. I’m just not sold on him yet as as Open Championship player. This one could vex him. I just want to see how he plays this week, I’m very curious.“
It’s a fair point from Rapaport. However, I would argue that DeChambeau knows how to hit the ball lower, he just struggles with his distance control with his irons more than anything else.
It will be fascinating to see how he performs at Portrush this week.
Bryson DeChambeau must fix one key issue ahead of The Open
DeChambeau’s iron play has really let him down when the pressure is on at the majors this season.
He had a great chance to win The Masters, but his iron play was atrociously poor during the final round at Augusta.
Here are his strokes gained approach stats from Masters week:
| Round | Bryson DeChambeau’s strokes gained approach |
| One | +1.43 |
| Two | -0.78 |
| Three | -1.83 |
| Four | -2.40 |
His iron play was suspect once again at The PGA Championship in May, and his all-round game was off at The US Open.
So it will be really interesting to see how good DeChambeau’s distance control with his irons is, if he does indeed get into contention at The Open this week.
If the wind kicks up at Royal Portrush, DeChambeau may well have one or two issues.
