Xander Schauffele is looking to continue his excellent 2024 form at this week’s BMW Championship in Denver, Colorado.

The Open Championship winner is currently second in the FedEx Cup standings and will likely head to East Lake with a two-shot deficit.

Before the season finale, the world’s elite players are at Castle Pines Golf Club to tackle the longest course in PGA Tour history.

The Denver venue is over 6,500 feet above sea level and could host some of the biggest drives of the 2024 season.

Schauffele claimed he’s well-suited to altitude golf; furthermore, the American suggested the course would’ve been challenging to tackle without modern-day technology.

“You see caddies and their team members trying to figure out with the machines and all the high-tech stuff we have these days versus back — I can’t even imagine what it was like 25 years ago trying to figure out how to play at a golf course like this. It would be a lot more difficult,” Schauffele explained.

Schauffele then spoke about his compatriot Wyndham Clark, who was raised just 12 miles north of this week’s venue.

“Yeah, Wyndham talked about the property, Schauffele added. “He talked about how cool it is. He’s definitely proud to still have a place here and come here. He was excited for the week, and he thought everyone would really like it.”

Attention to detail will be vital at this week’s BMW Championship

Those players who have arrived at Castle Pines early in order to dial their stock yardages have the right idea.

Playing at an altitude of 6000 typically causes the ball to travel 12% further. Therefore, the tour’s elite must perform extensive recalibration upon their arrival in Denver.

A player like Matt Fitzpatrick could be one to watch. The Englishman has had success whilst playing in Switzerland on the European Tour and is one of the biggest stats geeks in the game.

The 29-year-old will leave no stone unturned regarding his numbers, and that could see him challenge the leaders this week.

Schauffele, of course, is another who works his numbers to the absolute bone, and the American stands an excellent chance of landing win number three this week.
