Xander Schauffele was back at home while Scottie Scheffler was romping away to victory at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson last week.
Schauffele missed the first two months of the PGA Tour season through injury, and his rustiness upon his return has meant that he has fallen behind Scheffler and indeed, Rory McIlroy.
The 28-year-old Texan was in sensational form at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson last week, winning by an incredible eight shots.
Scheffler decided to skip the Truist Championship this week, in order to spend some time at home and to fine-tune his game.

After watching McIlroy win The Masters in April, Scheffler admitted that it gave him more motivation to work even harder on his game.
But is that the case with Schauffele as well?
Xander Schauffele shares thoughts on Scottie Scheffler winning CJ Cup Byron Nelson
Last week was nothing more than a stroll in the park for Scheffler at TPC Craig Ranch.
He really does have an uncanny knack of making the game look ridiculously easy.
But what did Schauffele really think of watching his good friend run away with the CJ Cup Byron Nelson trophy?

The 31-year-old Californian said, “I don’t think it’s motivation to remind people. I think it’s just motivation to play better and to keep working hard.
“Whenever anyone does anything, if I’m sidelined or have an off week, watching Scottie shoot the lights out in Dallas, that’s motivating. Just motivating to get better at what I do and to show up and try to get myself in contention to win.
“When I watched Scottie, the way he kind of went around Dallas, he was kind of stacking up really nice shots. Sure, he missed — he’d kind of leak a drive out to the right, but you don’t really think of that because you just hit 10 or 12 really good shots in a row. So it’s easy to fall back into a really good rhythm and flow.”
PGA Tour records of Schauffele and Scheffler compared
Schauffele and Scheffler are two of the most consistent players on the PGA Tour.
Here’s how their records compare alongside one another’s.
| PGA Tour record | Schauffele | Scheffler |
| Appearances | 190 | 139 |
| Wins | 9 | 14 |
| Top 5’s | 47 | 48 |
| Top 10’s | 66 | 65 |
| Cuts made | 167 | 120 |
| Majors won | 2 | 2 |
Both sets of stats are a sign of remarkable consistency from both players.
Schauffele will be hoping to get off the mark with his first win of 2025 at the Truist Championship or even better, at The PGA Championship next week.
Meanwhile, Scheffler has already got a victory under his belt this season, so he should be freed up heading into the vitally important next few months of the season.
