Xander Schauffele carded a five-under 65 on day two of the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands, but the American has admitted his game isn’t quite firing on all cylinders.

The 2024 PGA Championship winner sits three shots back of Korean Tom Kim, who also carded a 65 after impressing during the first round.

Scottie Scheffler, Collin Morikawa and Akshay Bhatia are all one shot ahead of Schauffele on eleven under.

It was another consistent outing for the American despite admitting he was perhaps feeling a little tired after a non-stop 2024 to date.

Speaking to the media post-round, the 30-year-old claimed he doesn’t have the ability to hit all the shots he wants to hit.

“I don’t really like the A, B, C [game],” said Schauffele. “It’s just like we like to hit shots, and I don’t have all the shots I feel I can hit comfortably.”

Despite his frustrations, Schauffele admitted he’s pleased with how his putting has been recently.

He added: “Happy, you know, I putted pretty well for the most part. I missed one short putt today. Other than that, it was pretty solid; I need to give myself more looks.”

Xander Schauffele must continue red-hot form to challenge at the Travelers Championship

Despite not playing his best, it feels like Schauffele is nearly always in contention.

During last week’s US Open, for example, the American clearly struggled off the tee but still finished under par and in the top ten.

And heading into the final two days of the PGA Tour’s last signature event of the season, Schauffele will have to go low to keep pace with the leaders.

With the likes of Kim, Scheffler and Morikawa all enjoying the favourable Connecticut conditions, birdies and eagles are a must if the 30-year-old wants to land his second win of 2024.
