2024 PGA Championship winner Xander Schauffele is once again in contention, this time in the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands.

The American has carded back-to-back 65s and sits three shots back of Tom Kim after the Korean also shot five under on Friday.

It’s been a hectic stretch of golf for Schauffele, with his maiden major title coming the week after he faltered in the final round of the Wells Fargo Championship.

However, the 30-year-old built on his win at Valhalla during last week’s US Open, finishing T7 on one under.

But, despite his impressive form, Schauffele has admitted he’s feeling a little tired.

Speaking after his second round at TPC River Highlands, the American suggested he’s perhaps more fatigued than he’s been letting on.

He explained: “I think I was in a little bit of denial. This is probably the most in contention I’ve been in my whole life through a pretty hot stretch of golf.”

The American even suggested he’s refrained from telling his team just how tired he really is.

“I am probably more worn down than I wanted to admit to my team,” he added. “I think I got tired when everyone told me I looked tired. I felt like I was fine. It’s a lot of golf, and I think not playing this afternoon will help. Rest up and get ready for the weekend.”

Xander Schauffele never far from the leaderboard

Despite claiming he’s slightly jaded, Schauffele is never far from the leaderboard, even when he’s not at his best.

At Pinehurst, for example, the diminutive 30-year-old was clearly struggling. But, somehow, he still managed to work his way to a top-ten finish.

If Scottie Scheffler is deemed the elite level of consistency, Schauffele cannot be far behind.

With the Open and PGA Tour playoffs still to come this season, there’s every chance of the 2024 PGA Championship returning to the winners’ circle.
