Xander Schauffele and Scottie Scheffler are set to break a PGA Tour record that Tiger Woods set at the turn of the century.
Rick Shiels says Scheffler has had a better year than Schauffele, with the pair having dominated the 2024 PGA Tour honours list.
American men’s golf swept the majors for the first time in over 40 years, with Schauffele and Scheffler playing central roles.
Along with his gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Scheffler has won six times, including the Masters.
Schauffele meanwhile clinched success at the PGA Championship and The Open, and sits behind only Scheffler in the world rankings.

Xander Schauffele and Scottie Scheffler close in on Tiger Woods record
The American duo now head into the FedExCup Playoffs this week sitting in the top two spots, with Scheffler in first and Schauffele in second.
And they are now on course to break a record set by their compatriot Woods, with Justin Ray writing on X: “The only player in the last 40 years to have a PGA Tour season where they made bogey or worse on less than 10% of their holes played was Tiger Woods in 2000 (9.8%).
“Xander Schauffele (9.4%) and Scottie Scheffler (9.5%) both enter the playoffs under 10%.”
Who can challenge Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele?
The top 70 in the FedExCup standings are now heading to Memphis as they look to kickstart their bid for glory.
Many will already have their sights set on the BMW Championship and Tour Championship, which involve fields of 50 and 30 respectively.
But Scheffler returns to PGA Tour action at TPC Southwind following his Olympic gold, with 2,000 points up for grabs for this week’s winner.
Schauffele sits nearly 2,000 points behind the leader, but Viktor Hovland will also be keen on defending his FedExCup title.
He does, however, have just one top-10 finish all season, with two-time winner this season Rory McIlroy perhaps more of a threat to the American duo.
Their compatriots Collin Morikawa and Wyndham Clark are also on the scene, while Europeans Ludvig Aberg and Shane Lowry are set to make their first Tour Championship.
