Wyndham Clark says when he last had to pay for a round of golf, ‘I was really shocked’

Wyndham Clark is a highly divisive figure on the PGA Tour.

And Clark‘s latest comments will do nothing to quell the criticisms from his detractors.

Back in June, Clark caused real controversy when he damaged the Oakmont lockers during the US Open.

His behaviour during the PGA Championship was questionable as well. Clark threw his club into a T-Mobile advertising board and released an apology after the tournament.

Clark recently admitted that the 2025 PGA Tour season has been a struggle for him, but there have been some green shoots of late for the 31-year-old.

He shot an opening round of three-under par 67 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship on Thursday, and he’ll be looking to build upon that over the next three days.

Clark is a huge name in the game now, especially since he won the US Open at LA Country Club in 2023.

The three-time PGA Tour winner has been in the golfing doldrums over the past 12 months or so, but on his day he can hang with the best of them.

However, two years ago, he was made to pay for a round of golf like every other member of the public.

And Clark has admitted that the fact he had to hand over some cash genuinely shocked him.

He said: “I paid Troon in Arizona about two years ago charged me and I was shocked. But yeah, I paid 75 bucks and they said it was a good discount, which I think it is. I was really shocked. But prior to that, yeah, it’s been seven, eight years.“

Paying for his round of golf in Arizona clearly took Clark by surprise. A US Open champion and PGA Tour member being made to pay to play is quite something, isn’t it?

Clark’s form on the PGA Tour in 2025 has been extremely underwhelming.

As a result of his struggles, he’s outside the top 12 in the Ryder Cup points list and is currently sitting in 49th position in the FedEx Cup standings.

Clark needs a reset in the off-season before the start of the 2026 PGA Tour schedule.

He clearly has the talent to win big events, but a lot of hard work will be required during the winter months in order to get his game back to levels he was at in 2023.
