The PGA Championship ended with Scottie Scheffler unsurprisingly at the top of the pile.

Scheffler reigned supreme at the PGA Championship, and he made it look very easy on the whole, despite not being anywhere near his best throughout the week at Quail Hollow.

However, the week in general didn’t pass without incident – there was plenty of controversy to say the least.

Scheffler’s driver was deemed to be non-conforming before the PGA Championship had even started.

And the same thing happened with Rory McIlroy, and that seemed to set the Northern Irishman into a spiral for the rest of the week.

Scheffler was undoubtedly the main character at Quail Hollow, but there were plenty of interesting sub-plots rumbling on in the background as well.

In fairness, that’s exactly how every major championship should be.

Wyndham Clark apologises for his behaviour during the PGA Championship

2023 US Open champions Wyndham Clark experienced a challenging week at Quail Hollow.

Before the event began, Clark suggested that Quail Hollow suited him perfectly.

However, the 30-year-old finished the tournament on four-over-par for the four rounds he played.

Clark ended in a tie for 50th place after rounds of 72, 69, 73 and 74.

Clark was clearly very frustrated during the final round at Quail Hollow, and he launched his club in anger after finding the fairway bunker off the tee on the 16th hole.

And the PGA Tour star has now taken to his social media accounts to apologize for his behaviour during the final round of the PGA Championship.

I would like to sincerely apologize for my behaviour yesterday on hole 16. As professionals, we are expected to remain professional, even when frustrated, and I unfortunately let my emotions get the best of me. My actions were uncalled for and completely inappropriate, making it clear I have things I need to work on. I hold myself to a high standard, trying always to play for something bigger than myself, and yesterday I fell short of those standards. For that I am truly sorry. I promise to better the way I handle my frustrations on the course going forward, and hope you all can forgive me in due time.

The club throw from Clark was an example of how tour pros can set a really poor example to young children who are watching on their televisions.

However, the fact that he made such a profound public apology means that he definitely deserves a little bit of credit at least.

Not the first time Wyndham Clark has caused controversy this year

Clark raised some eyebrows back at the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill in March.

The 30-year-old hit his drive into the middle of the fairway on the 3rd hole during his second round.

When he got up to his ball, he saw it was embedded in a pitch mark, so he acted accordingly and took relief from the lie.

However, some eagle-eyed fans suggested that he should not have been given free relief for the embedded ball rule, because his ball actually rolled into an old pitch mark left there by another player.

Clark was slammed by some golf fans for moving his ball before being given the ruling by the officials.

However, he was cleared of any wrongdoing by the PGA Tour in the end. Clark just can’t seem to escape controversy this season.

It must be said though, the latest problem he had was entirely of his own making.
