World number 59 Will Zalatoris is looking to boost his FedEx Cup aspirations at this week’s Wyndham Championship.

The event at Sedgefield Country Club is the last regular season event before the end-of-season PGA Tour playoffs start at the St. Jude Championship.

Jordan Spieth and Min Woo Lee are the highest-profile names currently flirting with the top 70 cut line. Both players need a positive performance this week. Furthermore, three former major champions are also in real danger of seeing their seasons cut short.

As for Zalatoris, the American will make the first playoff event but will need to boost his current position to qualify for the Tour Championship, which gets underway at East Lake at the end of the month.

Zalatoris claimed he found a crucial part of his game before the Rocket Mortgage Classic. However, the 27-year-old’s form has been somewhat disappointing since having missed cuts at the Scottish Open and The Open.

The 2022 US Open runner-up is looking to bounce back this week, and the American has revealed what he plans to do in North Carolina.

“I think I am probably hitting five drivers this week,” Zalatoris told the press. “In the past, I’ve played a bunch here, and I’ve done some goofy things here. Hitting driver off nine when you know you can hit three iron and a wedge in.

He added: “Really, it’s just trying to run the tables around here. These are some of the best greens we have on tour, so get as many looks as you can, get hot with the putter, and make a run.”

Expect low scores at the 2024 Wyndham Championship

After a tricky stretch of links golf, fans can expect low scoring at this week’s event.

Back in 2023, Lucas Glover claimed victory, finishing on 20 under, two shots clear of Russell Henley. The cut 12 months ago was one under and indicates that birdies and eagles could be in store this week.

All eyes will no doubt be on Spieth as he looks to cement his position inside the top 70. The three-time major champion has been struggling with a wrist injury this season and has admitted he’s likely to undergo surgery when his PGA Tour campaign ends.

The 31-year-old, however, will hope his injury concerns are put on hold for at least another three weeks as he looks to book an unlikely spot at the Tour Championship.
