Golf is a frustrating game for most of us at the best of times and that feeling still resonates with some of the best in the world, even multiple-time major champions like Padraig Harrington.

Harrington has three majors on the PGA Tour and has followed up on the senior tour with more success.

The Irishman is very much considered one of golf’s good guys and his tips videos, coaching style and of course, how well he still plays, are all to be admired.

Nevertheless, Harrington is still only human at the end of the day.

And revealing some insight into his mindset at this week’s Simmons Bank Championship, Harrington admitted just why he needs his caddie sometimes before teeing off.

Padraig Harrington says why his caddie is so important before teeing off

It’s always good to see the experienced pros up close and personal and Padraig Harrington is as insightful as they come.

Playing at this week’s Simmons Bank Championship, Harrington allowed the cameras to follow him from the practice greens and through one hole.

And revealing the mental struggles a golfer can go through, Harrington explained how his mood can change massively.

“I do get nervous, not now I’m grumpy now,” Harrington replied as he walked to the first tee. “I seem to be playing really well but had a bad warm up, so just grumpy now, not nervous.

“Got to make sure I spend time with my caddie before. Walk, make sure I watch my attitude rather than ride the character and be on my own and sulk. I can see that my attitude needs an adjustment so got to get hold of it and get on it.”

How Padraig Harrington performed at the Simmons Bank Championship

Harrington was defending his title at Pleasant Valley but sadly for the Irishman, it didn’t come off this time.

Harrington finished way down the field in T34 after struggling for momentum.

Still, his final round was a solid one as he came home at two-under par. A very up and down scorecard prevented things being even better for Harrington, with five bogeys or worse ruining his five birdies and one eagle.

With the season ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship next up, Harrington will be hoping he produces much better to round out his campaign for 2025.
