Cameron Young finally got over the line in a PGA Tour event at the 94th attempt as he won the Wyndham Championship in fine fashion.

Young became the 1000th unique winner in PGA Tour history as he won by six shots over Mac Meissner to finally etch his name on a winner’s trophy.

The American has been in with a shot at a number of events over the last few seasons but never quite got the job done.

Now, though, he has a real chance to build on this first taste of success and after Young admitted he wants a Ryder Cup spot, this win very much gives Keegan Bradley something to at least think about.

However, while Young has finally bagged win number one, it also highlights just why he needs to change his mindset and attitude a bit.

Cameron Young has to show more confidence to be a dominant PGA Tour player

Everyone in golf has tipped Cam Young for superstardom ever since he stepped foot on the TOUR.

The fact it has taken him over 90 events to get a win is quite surprising in itself but there is also a surprising element to Young’s character that may have held him back.

Over the years, the American has just not oozed the confidence or belief that make the very best players in the world what they are.

Time and again he has just come up short and when interviewed, he’s seemed so downbeat on his chances that you can come away thinking he won’t ever contend again.

Now, though, with a huge win under his belt and one of the most dominant performances of 2025, this has to give Young the confidence to go and do more.

If he can find that inner confidence, channel his best game more and more like he did at the Wyndham, then we genuinely could see Young become a top ten player and challenge the likes of Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy more often.

Cam Young’s 2025 PGA Tour stats

The easiest way to assess a PGA Tour player in the most basic of forms is to look at the strokes gained stats for the year.

For Cam Young, his stats are a bit of a rollercoaster when it comes to SG overall but crucially, he is right up there in one key metric.

Despite his big hitting, it is actually the putter that is giving Young the joy he needs to be successful.

This season, he is 6th overall for SG putting, effectively masking the fact he is down in 104th and 149th for SG approach and SG around the green.

In terms of driving and total SG, Young is very much middle of the road, coming in at 54th off the tee and 47th in SG total.

Still, those stats leave room for improvement and if he can improve on those by just 10-15%, then we could well see the floodgates open in terms of winning.
