Cameron Young has played some terrific golf during his first 33 holes of the Wyndham Championship.

Young is currently leading the Wyndham Championship after the rain-delayed second round, having made 15 birdies and a solitary bogey so far.

The 28-year-old has three holes still to play on Saturday morning to complete his second round, and if he can make one or two more birdies to finish off his round, he will be in a great position to go on and win his first ever PGA Tour title.

Incredibly, Young said ‘nothing clicked’ during his opening round 63 at the Wyndham Championship.

The New Yorker is clearly ready to win, it’s just a matter of whether he has the mentality needed to get the job done.

Young has been criticised for several outbursts of anger this season on the PGA Tour, and he will need to keep his emotions in check, if he is to win at Sedgefield Country Club.

Cameron Young makes Ryder Cup claim while leading the Wyndham Championship

Young is currently sitting in 19th spot on the US Ryder Cup points list, while he is in 40th place in the FedEx Cup standings.

That could all change with a win at Sedgefield Country Club this week, though.

A victory would see him jump inside the top 20 on the FedEx Cup points list and close the gap on the top 12 in the Ryder Cup standings.

Young spoke to reporters after his round on Friday, and suggested that making the Ryder Cup team at Bethpage Black is his main goal.

He said: Yeah, obviously I played some nice golf through 32, 33 holes, whatever it is. Yeah, I’m really just trying to build on what I’ve done throughout the course of the year. Nothing really changes. It’s nice to see the scores add up to what they have over the first holes of the tournament, but like you said, lots to play. I’m just trying to look at it in terms of lots of opportunities out there. I would obviously love to win a golf tournament, it would do a lot for me kind of toward the end of the season here.

But for me it’s not necessarily about this week. I’ve got a goal. In the middle of September I’d like to be in New York playing on that Ryder Cup team. I’ve kind of tried to look at that. If I can achieve that, I can achieve a lot of things over these next four weeks. So that’s kind of, I’m trying to keep that in mind rather than the little things along the way. Not that winning a tournament here would be little, but I think for me kind of looking off in the distance in that way I think will help me just keep trying to trust what I’m doing and build some confidence along the way.

A couple of rounds in the mid-60s should be enough for Young to get the job done this weekend in North Carolina.

Cameron Young’s career PGA Tour record

It’s amazing to think that Young is still awaiting his first win on tour.

His game is deserving of so much more success than he’s had so far in his career.

The American has the power off the tee required to overpower Sedgefield Country Club.

If Young continues to putt well on Saturday and Sunday, he may well finally get his first win on the PGA Tour.
