Ever thought of paying $2500 for a putter fitting?

The answer to that for most golfers is probably a resounding no. But never fear, Rick Shiels has gone and done it and delivered his verdict on the whole experience.

Popular YouTuber Shiels has done all sorts of club reviews and service tests over the years and very recently he took part in a premium putter fitting with golfing giant, PING.

PING charged Shiels around £2000 – or $2500 – for the experience and at the end of it, Shiels was sent a brand spanking new putter made very much to the exact spec he’d gone through on the day.

But what was the experience in general like? And was it really worth $2500? Well, Shiels has given his verdict and it’s safe to say PING might have some work to do.

Rick Shiels delivers his honest verdict on $2500 PING putter fitting

Speaking on his latest podcast episode of The Rick Shiels Golf Show, the YouTube sensation had some harsh words for the brand and the experience.

“The experience of the fitting and the actual putter, was underwhelming for the price. It costs £2000 for this fitting. The fitting was ok, not worth £2000. The putter was…ok. I’ve been using it, I like the feel of it, the weight of it, so I do like it. But…it’s aged very very quickly the putter,” Shiels said when discussing spots of rust on the club.

“I think, as we do if we are golf events or at the range and a fan comes up and says ‘oh Rick we’ve booked a £2000 putter fitting’, I wouldn’t feel comfortable that that service is value for money. I’d say please make sure you’re getting the best service or wait until they’ve made some changes.”

Shiels did comment that PING had been in touch over the review and suggested changes to the service, while they had also offered to replace the putter for him.

Nobody is spending $2500 on a putting fitting

Well, not your Average Joe anyway.

As mentioned on the podcast, these premium services are for those probably at the top of the game and looking for the small percentages and wins that can make a difference.

In the real world, there’s not a single golfer out there who plays weekends or at their local club that is going to go spending this amount of money, unless they’re super rich and simply want to know what the fuss is about.

Shiels, as always, has been brutally honest here and in fairness to him, looks to have imparted a change on the brand.
