Scottie Scheffler remains in the hunt for another green jacket, having finished his second round of The Masters in T5.

Scheffler made a strong start to his Masters title defence, having won the major championship in 2024 and indeed in 2022.

He carded an opening round 68 at Augusta National, before adding a second round 71 to enter The Masters weekend on five-under.

Brandel Chamblee thinks Scheffler’s technique is ‘bizarre’, with such an approach helping him to huge success in recent years.

A third triumph at The Masters is now a real possibility, although Scheffler is three shots behind leader Justin Rose.

And it seems that he is extremely driven to close that gap as quickly as possible, having been spotted as the last player on the Augusta practice area after round two.

Detailing Scheffler’s efforts, Golf Channel’s Todd Lewis wrote on X: “Last on the tournament practice area at The Masters tonight was world #1 Scottie Scheffler who worked on his game until 8:18 pm. I asked his coach Randy Smith what he worked on and he said, ‘Basics, Basics, Basics!’”

Where does Scottie Scheffler rank for scoring ahead of round three at The Masters?

Scheffler clearly has that winning mentality and the drive to succeed, which are undoubtedly other reasons behind his superb career so far.

But even with his promising position going into round three, he certainly has a mountain to climb given the competition.

Rose is out ahead on eight-under, with LIV Golf star Bryson DeChambeau just one shot behind on seven-under.

Rory McIlroy and Corey Conners meanwhile sit T3 on six-under, with Tyrrell Hatton, Shane Lowry and Matt McCarty joining Scheffler in T5.

He may have bittersweet feelings about his second round at Augusta, having made a very strong start on day one.

But many of his opponents have struggled, and Scheffler is more than capable of storming the leaderboard early on Saturday to put real pressure on Rose.
