Scottie Scheffler is easing himself back into competitive action after a truly sensational 2024 season.

Scheffler is playing the 2024 Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas this week, having won the event in 2023.

A very strong field will be in play at Albany in Nassau, although Tiger Woods has withdrawn from the Hero World Challenge.

Still, world number one Scheffler is joined by the likes of Justin Thomas, Ludvig Aberg, Patrick Cantlay and Keegan Bradley.

But Scheffler is the man in form ahead of the competition, with the American having won seven times on the PGA Tour in 2024.

He also clinched the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, and is unsurprisingly a PGA Tour Player of the Year nominee.

Still, the 28-year-old is eager to improve, with Scheffler telling NBC what he has been working on in the off-season.

“I just think continuing to improve and work on my distance control,” said Scheffler. “I think you can always be grinding and learn how to control your ball and hit different types of shots, improve areas around the green.

“Continue to work on the stuff we worked on with Phil [Kenyon] on my putting. Most of the stuff we did this off-season was what we did over the last couple of years.”

How has Scottie Scheffler changed his driving approach?

There is no doubt Scheffler’s putting has massively improved under the guidance of Kenyon, but he has clearly been focusing a lot of his efforts elsewhere in recent times.

NBC highlighted his driving distance and accuracy since 2022, with the American evidently prioritising the latter over the former.

He has fallen from 19th in the PGA Tour driving distance figures in 2022 to T64 in 2024, with Scheffler climbing from 100th to 23rd in accuracy in that same period.

Losing distance but finding more fairways has allowed the 13-time PGA Tour champion to then make superb use of his iron play.

And that is undoubtedly when the world number one comes alive, with the current approach having proved extremely successful for Scheffler.
