Every so often in sports there are some major blunders when it comes to predictions and Phil Mickelson has suffered an all-time stinker when it comes to Scottie Scheffler.
Back in March this year, Mickelson made the bold claim that Scheffler would not win a single PGA Tour event prior to the Ryder Cup.
As we know, that prediction has been well and truly proven wrong as Scheffler has once again enjoyed a superb season.
However, just how wrong was Mickelson, and is it possible he’s been left with even more egg on his face than we originally thought?
The answer to that in a nutshell is a resounding yes.

Scottie Scheffler’s record since Phil Mickelson’s bizarre prediction
Mickelson knows deep down he made one of the wildest and most ridiculous calls of all-time really.
He’ll be big enough to own the mistake and will no doubt come out something outlandish in 2026 to get the tongues wagging.
However, when you actually look at what Scottie Scheffler has done since Mickelson said he wouldn’t win, it’s quite frightening.
Shared by Kyle Porter on X, it’s actually staggering to see written down what Scheffler has managed.
Scheffler has won two majors among the six wins he’s picked up overall and in that time, accumulated over $25m in prize money.
Furthermore, Scheffler has 15 from 15 cuts, and in all of them, has finished inside the top eight.
He is a whopping 196 under par since Mickelson’s tweet, and has completed a quite stunning 45 rounds of golf in the 60s.
The club Scottie Scheffler has joined thanks to his 2025 form
As Scheffler continues to play well and show just why he’s world number one, he also continues to put his name into the record books.
It seems every time he wins he adds something else to his CV and after winning for a sixth time at the Procore this weekend, Scheffler was at it again.
Scheffler now joins Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer as the only players to have back-to-back six-plus season wins on the PGA Tour.
| Strokes Gained (SG) | Scottie Scheffler 2025 |
| SG off the tee | 2nd (0.748) |
| SG approach | 1st (1.291) |
| SG around the green | 17th (0.322) |
| SG putting | 21st (0.382) |
| SG overall | 1st (2.743) |
For Scheffler, it’s just another record ticked off and with his name among the greats like this, it shows just how good he actually is.
While we enjoy him in the here and now, when he’s eventually finished playing, we’ll look back at this version of Scottie Scheffler as one of the very best to ever do it.
