Rory McIlroy is finally a champion at The Masters, clinching the green jacket via a playoff win over Justin Rose.

Rose was grateful to be part of McIlroy’s success, despite losing a playoff at The Masters for the second time in his career.

The now five-time major champion missed a putt on the 18th in regulation to secure the title, but made no mistake in the playoff on the very same hole shortly after.

McIlroy has received a message of congratulations from Woods, who was unable to play at The Masters due to injury.

But it is a tournament he has won five times throughout his stunning career, with McIlroy now following in his footsteps in terms of the career grand slam.

Along with representing Team Europe at the Ryder Cup, they emerged victorious at the 2024 Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

Lowry remains on three PGA Tour wins after finishing T42 at Augusta, with his friend now taking his tally to 29.

Having stolen the show at the par-three contest before the main action got underway, McIlroy’s daughter Poppy meanwhile has now received a message from her father.

“I think it is a story of perseverance and I think that is what I would tell her,” added McIlroy. “That there were a lot of years I came here and I was not able to achieve what I wanted to achieve.

“But I never let that discourage me or get me down. I kept coming back and I kept giving it another go. So I think that is the story that I would tell her and why it meant so much to so many people.

“They have the day care here, and she came back with a t-shirt on Friday and on the back of that t-shirt was all the past champions of The Masters tournament and she asked me daddy, why is your name not on the back of this t-shirt. So I said to her, Poppy, next year my name is going to be on the t-shirt, so that was a nice moment.”
