Season three of Full Swing is just days away from release as the golfing world gets set to dive back behind the scenes of the professional game.
The fly-on-the-wall docuseries was popular among fans when it first hit Netflix in 2023. The first season covered professional golf at a time when talk of the Saudi-backed LIV Golf League first emerged. Five players who featured in the first series have signed for LIV, including Brooks Koepka, Joaquin Niemann and Mito Pereira.
Four-time major winner Rory McIlroy was a key storyline in series one and the focus of episode eight. The season finale documented the 2022 Open at St Andrews, which occurred during a turbulent time for professional golf.
What Rory McIlroy said about Tiger Woods in Full Swing series one
During the episode, McIlroy shed light on his most significant influences within the game and had this to say about 15-time major winner Tiger Woods.
“I grew up in Northern Ireland, and my Dad was a huge golf fan. It has always been a theme in my life. I would watch golf with him on TV. He bought me this VHS video tape back in the day, and it was Nick Faldo’s junior masterclass. Any time he needed me to be quiet, he would just put that in the video player, and I would just sit and watch that for hours,” McIlroy said.
“I was obsessed with golf at that point anyway, but when Tiger came on, it took it to a new level. I just remember watching Tiger play golf, and it would have been on Sunday nights back home for us because of the time difference. He still is my hero. To a lot of people, he is golf, and I feel very fortunate for the relationship that we have, but ever since then, all I wanted to do was try and be like him.”

The Northern Irishman also made a prediction about Woods during the season finale. “There is never going to be another Tiger Woods in our game for so many reasons,” McIlroy added.
“Not just his success on the golf course but also the barriers he was able to break down. But I think he has set a great example to a lot of us going forward.”
Given the way Woods dominated and transcended himself into arguably the most well-known sportsman of all time, it’s difficult to disagree with McIlroy’s claim.
Will Rory McIlroy feature in the new series of Full Swing?
McIlroy is set to star in the new series. The Full Swing trailer appeared to document the 35-year-old’s US Open heartache at Pinehurst No.2 and some personal issues he faced in 2024.
Bryson DeChambeau also appeared in the trailer, and there’s no doubt the LIV Golf star’s US Open win will take up a large chunk of the episode.
DeChambeau, however, personally declined the chance to feature on the show and did not hold any interviews with the Netflix camera teams.
Elsewhere, the likes of Scottie Scheffler, Tony Finau, Gary Woodland and Neal Shipley all sat down and conducted interviews with the Full Swing cameras.
