Bryson DeChambeau has shared a turbulent relationship with Augusta National since making his debut in 2016.
The big-hitting LIV Golf star has played in the first major of the season eight times and missed the cut just twice, in 2022 and 2023.
In fact, the 31-year-old’s best performance came during the 2024 edition, where he finished in a tie for sixth.
Another highlight came in 2019 when DeChambeau made his only hole-in-one at the iconic par-3 16th. However, there have been more controversial moments.
Before the 2020 tournament, the brash American faced criticism for claiming he was treating Augusta as a par 67, five shots better than the actual scorecard. DeChambeau eventually tied for 34th that year.
What happened during Bryson DeChambeau’s debut at The Masters

When he made his debut eight years ago, DeChambeau was fortunate enough to play a practice round alongside Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, and Keegan Bradley.
Of course, Mickelson and Johnson are now DeChambeau’s colleagues on LIV, and Bradley is the current US Ryder Cup captain.
Speaking during his press conference the day before his opening round, the two-time US Open winner revealed that Mickelson had shown him a book which detailed all there is to know about Augusta’s perilous greens.
“I’m an amateur, nothing like that(laughter). No, we didn’t even talk about that. That’s not a thing we were trying to accomplish. We were just trying to have a friendly match,” DeChambeau said.
“I will say I learned a lot from Phil and Dustin, as well as Keegan. Keegan’s quiet. He’s really quiet out there. Phil, I think, on 7, 6 or 7‑‑ yeah, 6, he made a birdie putt from like 40 feet, and he goes, oh, there’s Keegan, he finally showed up. So it was a funny little moment—Keegan’s great.
He added: “Dustin’s given me some good advice. And Phil has been helping me out. He has his little book, and he knows all the putts, the breaks and stuff. I was just trying to get little tidbits of information here and there. But it’s quite an honour to be able to play with him, and I gained a lot.”

The Masters is Bryson DeChambeau’s number-one priority
Before LIV Golf Singapore at Sentosa Golf Club, DeChambeau revealed that his next career goal is to win the Masters.
And, after his dramatic US Open victory at Pinehurst No.2, he clearly has what it takes to grind out major championship victories.
The third major of the year is typically the one which requires the most mental strength, whereas Augusta can throw up various scenarios.
If conditions are firm and fast, a US Open-style really tests the mentality of the world’s best. Par suddenly turns into a good score.
However, if softer greens emerge, Augusta does provide chances. DeChambeau can go low, and his game will be primed for when the world’s best head to Georgia in April.
