Bryson DeChambeau secured a dramatic second major title with his 2024 US Open win at Pinehurst No. 2.
The North Carolina course tested the world’s best golfers, and it was the American who emerged victorious after a battling display.
A roller-coaster final round of one-over was by no means his best of the week, but it was still enough to edge out Rory McIlroy.
DeChambeau carded a 71 to end on six-under, with the Northern Irishman finishing just one shot behind after his final-round 69.
The victory at Pinehurst follows the LIV Golf star’s 2020 US Open success, with the latest win clinched with a nerveless four-foot putt on the 18th.

Bryson DeChambeau makes Tiger Woods comment after US Open win
It was, however, the approach shot from the bunker that will live longer in the memory, with DeChambeau needing to produce a superb shot in order to save par.
He did exactly that, with the American releasing all of his emotions following the fantastic chip, with those emotions having been on show all week.
When asked in his post-tournament press conference how he would respond to people who say his demonstrative responses and celebrations are an act, or a stick, DeChambeau said: “No. That’s my passion.
“I mean Tiger [Woods] is an idol of mine. He is my hero. And the way he reacted on the golf course. Payne [Stewart], the way he did. And numerous others who have inspired generations have allowed that to be unique and cool.
“From my perspective I am just passionate, I really care about doing well out here and showing the fans a side of me which was locked up.”
Can Bryson DeChambeau clinch more success at The Open?
DeChambeau is one of the few who show their true emotions on the course, with the American’s antics undoubtedly dividing opinion.
But many fans and others watching on would have been delighted to see the 30-year-old showing his true colours with almost every shot he took.
It was certainly a fitting tribute to one of DeChambeau’s idols Stewart, who won his third and final major at the 1999 US Open at Pinehurst No. 2.
Three-time US Open champion Woods did take to the field, but the 15-time major winner missed the cut after shooting seven-over in the first two rounds.
Fellow legendary figure Phil Mickelson meanwhile also missed the cut, but he was quick to congratulate DeChambeau following the win.
The former will undoubtedly celebrate the success for some time, but he will be forced to quickly turn his focus to the final major of the year.
The Open takes place next month at Troon, with Dame Laura Davies believing that the US Open champion could make it back-to-back major wins.
