Dame Laura Davies has shared how she believes Bryson DeChambeau will fare at The Open Championship at Royal Troon after his US Open victory on Sunday.
Bryson DeChambeau is a two-time major champion after a remarkable final day at Pinehurst No. 2, with the 30-year-old just about edging Rory McIlroy in North Carolina.
It was not convincing from DeChambeau, who began the day with a three shot lead over the chasing pack. At one stage during the back nine, the LIV Golf star was two shots back of McIlroy.
But DeChambeau got the job done with an amazing bunker shot on the final hole when the pressure was really on, with some probably thinking that he may even do well to make a play-off.
Dame Laura Davies predicts how Bryson DeChambeau will do at The Open
The final major of the year takes the world’s best to Scotland and Royal Troon. DeChambeau has, so far, registered just one top 10 at The Open during his career, and he did not play the last time the event was held at the South Ayrshire course.
Nevertheless, Dame Laura Davies has told Sky Sports (broadcast on 17/6; 00:20) that she believes that DeChambeau could thrive across the pond.

“I think he is going to love Troon. There are not many courses you would think he didn’t like. But he could be backing it up,” she said.
DeChambeau quickly becoming Big Match Bryson
DeChambeau is seemingly starting to emulate his old foe Brooks Koepka, by finding a way to peak in the biggest events, having now finished in the top 10 at all three majors so far this year.
In fact, DeChambeau’s sixth place finish at The Masters is his worst performance at the majors this season, which is outstanding considering that he had previously missed eight cuts in his 28 major championship appearances before 2024.
So it would not be a shock at all if he does now manage to compete in Scotland. DeChambeau is not someone who struggles for self-belief, and the way that he pulled it out of the bag on Sunday will only boost his confidence further.
This year looked certain to be the year of Scottie Scheffler, but DeChambeau is doing an unbelievable job of throwing a spanner in the works.
