We’re going to hear plenty of talk about the rough at this week’s US Open as Oakmont threatens to play havoc with the best players in the world and Grant Horvat has now given everyone a glimpse of what might lie in store.

Tournament organisers have been clear all along that the greens will be running fast and the rough will be thick at Oakmont.

In typical US Open fashion, it’s set to be the toughest of tests for the best in the world.

For us mere mortals, simply getting a glimpse of what might be to come is always intriguing and thanks to popular YouTube star Grant Horvat, we’ve been afforded that chance.

However, just like so many might find this week, Horvat has learned the hard way just how brutal Oakmont is going to be.

Grant Horvat humbled by Oakmont ahead of the US Open

After growing his following on social media to huge numbers, Grant Horvat is very much a top golfer in his own right and has competed both in the Creator Classic on the TOUR and the Korn Ferry Tour.

However, even the best golfers will find themselves coming unstuck at Oakmont and in a clip shared on X from a recent round he played at the US Open venue, Horvat has shown everyone what trouble lies ahead.

Posting on his own account, Horvat stated how he’d never seen rough like it.

“This week’s US Open at Oakmont is gonna be different. Personally, I’ve never experienced rough so thick. This was a humbling moment”

How long the rough is expected to be at Oakmont for the US Open

We’ve seen plenty of clips already of balls just disappearing off the fairway and Horvat’s shot from near the green just shows the perils that lie ahead.

Indeed, the rough is expected to be around the six inch mark at Oakmont and if that is the case, then players who don’t hit fairways will struggle.

With Scottie Scheffler likely to be the man to beat, the likes of Xander Schauffele will hope to lean on their good record at US Opens to win out.

Regardless, whether it be Scheffler, McIlroy or anyone else, if players are hitting the rough, then putting together any sort of decent score is going to be hard work.
