Viktor Hovland has stormed to 16th place in the FedExCup points list ahead of the BMW Championship.

Hovland is seeing ‘good swings’ more often, with the Norwegian having finished T2 at the St Jude Championship.

He is now at Castle Pines Golf Club for the BMW Championship, where Hovland will be looking for a similar performance.

Hovland is working with Joe Mayo on improving his swing, with the former having struggled on the PGA Tour this season.

The 26-year-old picked up just his second top-10 finish of the season at the St Jude Championship in Memphis.

Viktor Hovland shares Castle Pines verdict ahead of the BMW Championship

His focus is now on the BMW Championship, with Hovland having gotten an insight into the Castle Pines course this week.

Speaking in his BMW Championship press conference, Hovland said: “Yeah, I played the back nine yesterday and then the front nine today in the pro-am.

“It’s a really good golf course. I think it’s really fun, especially the back nine I really liked. I always think it’s difficult to design a championship golf course when you’re playing in this kind of altitude. But I think they’ve certainly done a great job here.

“I think it’s a perfect mix of some birdie holes, decent amount of water out there, and some of the par-5s are pretty cool. Yeah, I love the golf course.”

Can Viktor Hovland defend his BMW Championship title?

Hovland can rely on his fine finish at the St Jude for motivation in Colorado, having climbed from 57th place to 16th place in the points list thanks to his display.

But he can also take plenty of confidence from the 2023 BMW Championship, where the Norwegian emerged victorious.

He shot a stunning course-record 61 at Olympia Fields North Course to finish on 17 under, two ahead of Scottie Scheffler and Matt Fitzpatrick.

Hovland won’t forget his back-nine 28 anytime soon, which helped him enter the Tour Championship second in the standings.

He did, of course, win that event too, but Hovland faces a more difficult challenge this time around he looks to defend his FedExCup title.
