Norwegian star Viktor Hovland bounced back into form at the St Jude Championship, and the 2023 FedEx Cup champion has now assessed his performance at TPC Southwind.

The 26-year-old has endured an eventful season after reuniting with his former coach before the PGA Championship. Furthermore, after his disappointing performance at the Masters, Hovland was linked with a move to LIV Golf.

Hovland, however, has appeared to find form at the right time after the 2023 FedEx Cup winner finished tied for fourth at the St Jude Championship.

The Norwegian highlighted positive signs after his third round, and he has now explained why his current form has made golf so much easier.

Speaking immediately after shooting 66 during the final round in Memphis, Hovland explained that his misses are now much smaller than those he’s previously experienced in 2024.

“A lot of the good swings; I am seeing those more often,” Hovland explained.

“The ball is starting to behave like I’m expecting it to. And even the misses, some of the bad shots, I can feel I am reverting back to old habits, but the misses are way smaller than they used to be.”

He added: “Before, they would be off the planet, whereas now it is manageable, and I can make a nice up and down or make a long putt. It’s a lot easier to play golf when you see the dispersion pattern starting to shrink.”

Viktor Hovland on course to replicate 2023 FedEx Cup heroics

Hovland appears to be playing his way into form at precisely the right time, and the Norwegian’s presence in the FedEx Cup top 50 is cause for concern for the likes of Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele.

The 26-year-old won the last two events 12 months ago on his way to a memorable Tour Championship and FedEx Cup triumph.

Clearly, Hovland enjoys this part of the campaign, irrespective of the golf he’s playing.

After making several alterations since his 2023 triumph, Hovland appears to be returning to the norm – which made him unbeatable at East Lake – and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him triumph once more over the next two weeks.
