Viktor Hovland is among a cluster of players who are in contention to win the St Jude Championship this weekend.

The Norwegian star carded a well-crafted four under par third round to put himself in the mix behind Hideki Matsuyama at the top.

Of course, Matsuyama is some way clear and even Sky Sports have said that they only see Scottie Scheffler as being able to reel him in.

Nevertheless, Hovland has shown some good signs and if he can shoot another good round, he won’t be far off come Sunday evening.

And after struggling for much of 2024 with parts of his game, Hovland has admitted he’s delighted to finally see things trending in the right direction.

Viktor Hovland assesses his golf game after round three of the St Jude Championship

Speaking to the media after his round saw him sit in third place, Hovland said he was delighted to see the golf ball doing as he expected.

“Off the tee and into the greens, it was very good. I put myself in nice positions off the tee and hit a lot of greens, gave myself a lot of looks,” Hovland commented.

“I would have liked to have put a ball a little bit closer, but it was very solid from start to finish. A lot of the good swings, I’m seeing those more often.

“The ball is starting to behave like I’m expecting it to.”

Hovland happy to be competing

There’s been so many ups and downs for Viktor Hovland in 2024 that he’ll simply be happy to be playing well again.

Everyone in the world of golf knows how good Hovland is and for many, it’s a matter of time before he wins a major.

He does have a good record in the FedEx Cup though and won the event in 2023.

Hovland might not win this year, but it’s clear his game is going in the right way and as long as finishes strongly in the St Jude on the Sunday, he’ll be more than happy with proceedings.
