Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele have been the standout performers in 2024, and now several high-profile names are debating who has had a better season.
Scheffler has won seven times—including the Olympics and Masters—and is on course to claim the FedEx Cup title. YouTube star Rick Shiels believes Scheffler’s season is clear of Schauffele’s.
Schauffele has won less frequently, but crucially, the world number two has added two majors to his resume and golf commentator Smylie Kaufman has said several players would prefer Schauffele’s 2024.
Now, Viktor Hovland has weighed in on the debate.
Viktor Hovland likes the sound of Xander Schauffele’s 2024

Hovland is yet to win a major championship title despite going close at the 2024 PGA Championship, the event where Schauffele won his first major.
Speaking ahead of the St Jude Championship at TPC Southwind, the Norwegian admitted he likes the sound of Schauffele’s season better than Scheffler’s.
Hovland said: “I mean two majors sounds pretty nice to me!”
Majors matter above all else at the elite level
When discussing Tiger Woods’ career, the first thing often mentioned is his 15 major championship wins.
The best players are remembered for what they’ve achieved in the four most significant events of the season. Brooks Koepka, for example, will always be remembered for his five major titles and back-to-back US Open wins.
Of course, Scheffler has reached some incredible heights, but the golfing world won’t remember his RBC Heritage win, triumph at Memorial, or playoff victory at the Travelers; the list could go on and on.
Elite players build legacies in the majors, and until Scheffler adds two or three more to his record, he will still have his critics.
