When Vijay Singh declared that he would be playing on the PGA Tour in 2026, fans fumed.
“He’s not going to be able to compete on the PGA Tour at 62-years-old”, fans declared, as he used a career money-list exemption to earn full PGA Tour status in 2026. Vijay Singh was labelled selfish for taking a spot from players who had worked hard to earn their tour cards for this season.
The 62-year-old is a 34-time winner on the PGA Tour and a three-time major winner. But he began his professional career in 1982, and Singh hasn’t played regularly on the PGA Tour since 2020.
In the face of widespread criticism, Singh proved all of his doubters wrong. He shot 68-70 in tricky conditions over his first two rounds to make the cut at the Sony Open. And he took to social media afterwards to clap back at his doubters.
Vijay Singh is making his PGA Tour comeback! 🤯
Who should be next?
Vijay Singh’s message to doubters after making the cut at the Sony Open
Shortly after Singh made the cut in Hawaii by two shots, proving his doubters wrong, he immediately took to social media to send a message back to his critics.
Posting to Instagram, Singh captioned his post, “When they say 62 is too old to compete with the kids 😮💨 Let’s get the weekend rolling @sonyopenhawaii”
Who do you think will win the Sony Open in Hawaii this week?
J.J. Spaun, Keegan Bradley and Jordan Spieth are involved in a strong field at Waialae
In an event where Keegan Bradley and Collin Morikawa missed the cut, Singh can feel justified in his decision to return to the PGA Tour. Going even par in the windy conditions in Hawaii is no easy feat, and he was able to lean on all of his years of experience to get back to the clubhouse unscathed.
Singh shot two-under in his opening round to put himself in position to progress to the weekend, and a one-under front nine was an impressive start to Friday. He all but secured his spot on the 17th with his third birdie of the day, then bogeyed the 18th to finish the round even par.
If you think he’s done there, think again. We’re certainly done betting against Singh!

Where Vijay Singh ranks in oldest players to make PGA Tour cut
Singh didn’t become the oldest player to make the cut on the PGA Tour. That honour belongs to Jay Haas, who at 68 made the cut at the Zurich Classic, alongside his son, Billy Haas.
And taking only players who made the cut in individual PGA Tour events, Sam Snead holds the record. At 67, he made the cut at the 1979 Westchester Classic.
Singh slots in at eighth on the list. He’s the oldest player to make the cut on the PGA Tour since 2023, when Fred Couples shocked the world at The Masters.
| Rank | Player | Age | Tournament | Year |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Jay Haas | 68y, 4m | Zurich Classic | 2022 |
| 2 | Sam Snead | 67y, 2m | Westchester Classic | 1979 |
| 3 | Tom Watson | 65y, 7m | RBC Heritage | 2015 |
| 4 | Jack Nicklaus | 64y, 4m | The Memorial | 2004 |
| 5 | Fred Funk | 64y, 4m | Bermuda Championship | 2020 |
| 6 | Fred Couples | 63y, 6m | The Masters | 2023 |
| 7 | Bernhard Langer | 63y, 2m | The Masters | 2020 |
| 8 | Vijay Singh | 62y, 10m | Sony Open | 2026 |
| 9 | Arnold Palmer | 62y, 6m | Nestlé Invitational | 1992 |
| 10 | Sam Snead | 61y, 11m | The Masters | 1974 |
He slots in above Arnold Palmer, who at 62 made the cut at the 1992 Nestle Invitational. Singh is four months older than Palmer was when he achieved this feat.
Singh is four months younger than Bernhard Langer was when he made a PGA Tour cut, so perhaps he can rise up this leaderboard with another result like this later in the season!
