Tyrrell Hatton and his European teammates will be in for a seriously hostile reception at Bethpage Black later this month when the Ryder Cup gets up and running.

Hatton qualified for the European Ryder Cup team automatically – no mean feat considering the fact that he plays the majority of his golf on LIV.

Englishman Hatton is back playing the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth this week, having missed out on the event last year due to his LIV Golf commitments.

After moving to LIV in 2024, Hatton made it clear that qualifying for the Ryder Cup was one of his main goals.

The 33-year-old did that in the end, and fair play to him.

Now Hatton has to make sure that he is prepared both physically and mentally for the challenge that awaits him at Bethpage Black.

Tyrrell Hatton comments on New York fans ahead of the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black

Hatton is the kind of player who will undoubtedly draw extra attention from the Bethpage crowds.

He is an incredibly fiery competitor – one who will most likely thrive in the intense atmosphere that the New York fans will undoubtedly create.

So what does Hatton actually expect from the fans at Bethpage?

He said: I feel like probably the most hostile crowd was at Whistling Straits. It was a weird time in the world with still in COVID and people can’t travel. So there wasn’t many European fans at that Ryder Cup.

At least in two weeks’ time, there will be a lot more European fans. For sure, it will be heavily sided for the U.S. Team but yeah, it will still be a fun atmosphere, I’m sure.

It was then put to Hatton that fans in Wisconsin are very different to those in New York.

The Englishman said: I haven’t experienced it yet so I can’t comment on that. I would like to think they’re still going to be respectful and we’ll go from there.

Tyrrell Hatton comments on potential Robert MacIntyre

Back in 2023, Hatton played alongside Jon Rahm and Viktor Hovland. He played with Rahm again in 2021 and Shane Lowry.

However, it was put to him during his interview on Wednesday that he could perhaps be paired up with Robert MacIntyre at Bethpage.

Hatton responded by saying: Be a good amount of moaning, wouldn’t it? (Laughter) Be awful. (Laughter).

Judging by those comments, it’s highly likely that Hatton will not be playing with MacIntyre.

However, how Hatton deals with the Bethpage Black crowds will probably matter more than who he plays with.
