Tyrrell Hatton will be back playing at Wentworth in the BMW PGA Championship this week after missing out last year.
Hatton joined LIV Golf at the start of 2024, but he is one of the few players with the Saudi-backed outfit to have retained his best form since leaving the PGA Tour.
Englishman Hatton joined forces with Jon Rahm’s Legion XIII team on LIV, and he has been a huge hit with his team and on the tour in general.
However, what has been so impressive about the 33-year-old has been the fact that he has managed to win on the DP World Tour as well since joining LIV – twice in fact.
He won the Alfred Dunhill Links in October 2024 and the Hero Dubai Desert Classic in January of this year.
However, missing out on playing in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth this time last year would surely have hurt him.
Hatton won the event in 2020 and has always loved playing around the course where he is a member.
Tyrrell Hatton says how he felt when LIV prevented him from playing at Wentworth
This time last year, Hatton was competing in a LIV event over in America.
That forced him to miss out on playing in the DP World Tour event at his home track.
He has enjoyed so much success at the BMW PGA Championship, so missing out on playing the tournament in 2024 would have been a tough pill to swallow for him.

The Englishman was asked to explain why he enjoys playing at Wentworth so much.
He responded by saying: “I remember I finished second two years ago, and yeah, I can’t remember my results apart from that and 2020. As I said it’s a course I know very well and a place that I feel very comfortable, apart from the fourth tee shot. I don’t think anybody likes the fourth tee shot here. I enjoy the crowds genuinely; the support I’ve received over the years has got better.“
Hatton was asked whether it felt strange to miss out on playing Wentworth last year.
He said: “We were in — I think it was Dallas, actually. Yeah, for sure. It was hard to miss this event. But that’s also the decision that I made to join LIV at the start of last year. It kind of is what it is and I was hoping that coming into 2025 that it would work out that I would be able to play this event, and thankful it has. Yeah, as I said, very excited to be back.“
As Hatton said, he made his bed, and now he has to lie in it. Missing out on playing the DP World Tour’s flagship event is something he would have known might happen when he decided to join LIV Golf.
Tyrrell Hatton’s record on LIV vs the DP World Tour
Hatton has a really solid record during his time with the DP World Tour.
In fairness to him, he has made a fine start to life with LIV Golf as well.
| results | LIV | DP World Tour |
| Events played | 26 | 205 |
| Wins | 1 | 8 |
| Top-10s | 10 | 51 |
He will be looking to rack up a couple more wins on LIV as soon as possible next season, but at the same time, keep competing on the DP World Tour.
Team Europe need Hatton at future Ryder Cups, so they will be hoping that he performs well in the DP World Tour tournaments he actually gets to play in the future.
