Tyrrell Hatton’s third round of the 2024 DP World Tour Championship will be remembered, and not for the right reasons.

Hatton’s one-under 71, on the face of it, appears uneventful. However, the English LIV Golf star’s temperament was pushed to the absolute limit.

Hatton’s patience was tested on the 4th hole after he missed a short putt for par. The 33-year-old would then completely lose his cool on the 10th after missing a putt for birdie.

Dame Laura Davies called Hatton ‘daft’ after his reaction, and worse was to come on the par-five 14th.

Hatton pulled his third shot to the 619-yard hole and subsequently snapped his club in half. And Ewen Murray, on Sky Sports commentary, delivered a strong message to the LIV Golf man.

“It’s time for a change, I’m afraid,” Murray said.

“That’s a terrible influence on the next generation. I’m sorry to say it; I’m his biggest supporter. We’ve all had our moments, but he’s having too many of them.”

Tyrrell Hatton must control emotions after DP World Tour Championship incidents

Hatton is known for letting his emotions go, but there’s no doubt he overstepped the mark on Saturday at Jumeirah Golf Estates.

The incident on the 4th should’ve been where the narrative surrounding the Englishman was put to bed. Instead, the LIV star produced two more moments of rage.

Murray’s assessment is spot on. Everyone, from amateurs to professionals, gets frustrated. For Hatton, it happens far too often, perhaps a reason why he’s not among the game’s elite players.

If Hatton can control his frustration, there’s no doubt he’s got the game to win major championships. Hopefully, this week’s incident will be a turning point for the Englishman.
