Tyrrell Hatton was the man to lead his Legion XIII team to the LIV Golf team finals this weekend as Jon Rahm sat out the tournament with illness.

The Spanish captain pulled out of the event in Dallas with flu-like symptoms.

It was a move from Rahm that didn’t go down too well with the golfing world, with some suggesting he should have battled through to help his team.

Nevertheless, Hatton stood in as skipper and helped Legion XIII to the finals as they defeated Phil Mickelson’s HyFlyers in the semi-finals.

Of course, Rahm’s withdrawal means he won’t be featuring in the final today either.

But still, Hatton has revealed that he’s spoken to Rahm about the team anyway.

Tyrrell Hatton says Jon Rahm is getting better ahead of LIV Dallas finale

Speaking to the press after helping his team to the final four, Hatton admitted he’d contacted Rahm pretty much immediately and in good news, the Spaniard seems to be on the mend.

“We exchanged a few messages probably 10 minutes ago. He sounds like he’s doing a little bit better, which is good to hear. It was good for the team to win today,” Hatton said.

“I think whenever you’re choosing a team to play, you almost give that team a little bit of an added incentive to go out there and win.

“But yeah, it was nice for us to do our jobs and gave ourselves a chance going into tomorrow.”

Legion XIII will be big favourites

In fairness to the LIV Golf product, this has been quite an exciting weekend of golf and the format does seem to be working well.

The final will be different, as all four teams simply count their overall scores and the match-play element is now gone.

With that in mind, Legion XIII have to be the big favourites to win it all, especially with Bryson DeChambeau’s Crushers GC knocked out as well.

In the end, despite his apparent illness, Jon Rahm could walk away as the individual and team champion on his debut season in LIV.
