Phil Mickelson is in action this weekend at LIV Dallas and his HyFlyers GC team have been picked by Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton to be their opponents.

After being so successful over the course of the LIV season, Rahm’s Legion XIII had a bye from the quarter-finals and then were able to pick their opponents for the semis.

During the media event for the picks, Tyrrell Hatton opted for the HyFlyers and admitted he’d been in discussion with Rahm over the decision.

Of course, the HyFlyers got through yesterday as they won out against Joaquin Niemann’s Torque GC in one of the surprises of the day.

And speaking about the upcoming semi, captain Phil Mickelson has been giving his thoughts.

Phil Mickelson gives his verdict ahead of facing Jon Rahm and Legion XIII at LIV Dallas

Speaking to the media ahead of the semi finals in Dallas today, Mickelson was on stage as his HyFlyers were selected by Tyrrell Hatton and Jon RahmGolf fans are all celebrating after ‘huge’ Ryder Cup news from the PGA of America is announced to be Legion XIII’s opponents.

And reacting immediately, Mickelson was asked how he feels about being called out by the Legion XIII squad.

“Yeah, they’re really a great team, and I obviously have a lot of respect for Jon Rahm and have been a fan of his for a long time. They’re a great team and it’s going to be a fun matchup for us. It’s an opportunity for us to play such a strong team in the league,” Mickelson said.

“Today we had a chance to play Torque, and it was a great opportunity. Those guys are just incredible players. They have a great team chemistry and dynamic, and it was a real challenge for us, and tomorrow is going to be every bit as tough a challenge.”

End of the road for Mickelson’s team

While anything can happen in golf and we saw that at the LIV event yesterday as Brooks Koepka’s Smash GC were knocked out, this will be the end for Mickelson and the HyFlyers.

Rahm’s team are just too strong and with Rahm in excellent form, he’s going to have no issue seeing off Andy Ogletree.

Likewise, Tyrrell Hatton will be confident of beating Cameron Tringale.

Brendan Steele and Mickelson might fancy themselves in the team event to sneak a win but overall, the Legion XIII guys should have too much.

Still, the team event stuff is exciting and LIV might well be onto something with this format in the future.
